Atrial fibrillation in bacterial endocarditis.
نویسنده
چکیده
It is widely believed that subacute bacterial endocarditis and atrial fibrillation are very rarely found in the same patient. The older reports emphasize this point (Horder, I926; Libman and Friedberg, I94I), and even attach diagnostic significance to it. In view of the changes that have occurred in the picture of endocarditis in the past two to three decades (Anderson and Staffiurth, i955; Hughes and Gauld, I966; Lerner and Weinstein, I966), a survey was carried out on all cases of subacute bacterial endocarditis admitted to this hospital during the years I960-I967, in order to discover the frequency of coexistent atrial fibrillation.

Auricular Fibrillation and Mitral Stenosis
The infrequent association of bacterial endocarditis with auricular fibrillation and with severe mitral stenosis is noted. The relevant literature is reviewed. Eighty-two cases of bacterial endocarditis superimposed on rheumatic heart disease and 47 examples of bacterial endocarditis without underlying rheumatic valvulitis are studied. Auricular fibrillation and severe mitral stenosis occurred ...
متن کامل[A case of left-atrial myxoma].
Atrial myxoma can present with a variety of clinical pictures which may be suggestive of mitral stenosis or insufficiency. I They can also present with heart failure, fatigue and weight loss of rapid development in a middle aged patient with no history of rheumatic fever. 2 Most myxomas arise in the left atrium and less commonly in the right atrium. Left atrial myxomas predominantly arise from ...
متن کاملSeptic vegetation at the left atrial appendage entrance after pulmonary vein ablation for atrial fibrillation.
Pulmonary vein (PV) ablation is increasingly used to treat highly symptomatic atrial fibrillation. Here, we present a case of infective endocarditis (IE) after PV ablation at the uncommon position of the left atrial appendage entrance. We conclude that iatrogenic intracardial manipulation may create predisposing lesions for IE.

From January 1959 to January 1969, eight patients with atrial myxoma were seen at Emory University and Grady Memorial hospitals. Five patients had symptoms and signs compatible with mitral stenosis, three of whom underwent surgery with an incorrect preoperative diagnosis of mitral stenosis. Two myxomas were found at autopsy, one in a patient who died of acute myocardial infarction. One patient ...
متن کاملBacterial Endocarditis and Mural Thrombi
EMBOLIC phenomena occur with such frequency in the course of bacterial endocarditis as to constitute a cardinal diagnostic feature of this disease. However, it has been noted that the resultant infarcts are less often septic than would be expected if the emboli originated from the infected valvular vegetations.' A previous study of this apparent paradox showed that it is the nonbacterial thromb...
